  • Test your endurance with this 4 days Atlas Mountain trekking program

Itinerary
Day 1: Marrakech – Imlil (1740m) – Toubkal Refuge (3200m)
Leave the chaotic streets of Marrakech and head to the mountain village Imlil in a 90 min drive. Our driver will pick you up in an air conditioned vehicle from your accommodation in Marrakech. You will meet your guide in Imlil village where your adventure will begin. We will follow the path uphill crossing the stunning Mizane Valley, heading to the shrine of Sidi Chamharouch. The latter is a convenient halfway point to rest and, get watered and fed. The final hours of the hike will take us to the Toubkal refuge, where we will spend the night. The refuge is pretty basic and but covers all your necessities. It has a lounge area with a fireplace and a heater to get you warmed up. Added to this, there are toilets and hot showers. Overall the refuge is clean and well kept, and provides an excellent place to rest and meet other hikers.

Day 2: Toubkal refuge (3200m) – the peaks of Ouanakrim (4089m) – Toubkal refuge (3200m)
Today, we will target the Ouanoukrim twins, the 2nd and 3rd highest peaks in the High Atlas. They both stand at the head of Mizan Valley. The trek to the twins will not only be culminated with a stunning view of Mount Toubkal, but it will also test your legs and prepare your body for the big hike. We head back to the refuge for lunch, where you can spend the day resting your muscles and absorbing the beautiful surroundings. Total walking time approximately 7hours.

Day 3: Toubkal refuge (3200m) – Mount Toubkal peak (4167m) – Toubkal refuge (3200m)
Today is the day! We wake up early and start the climb to the summit of Mount Toubkal. The path rises steeply as we continue our hike steadily. Our professional guides will help you navigate safer routes to the summit. You will begin feeling footsore and exhausted, but the view from the summit are magical and definitely worth the pain you are feeling. Peaks and snowbound valleys will make themselves visible to you, as you stretch your eyes North and South contemplating the Atlas Mountain Range and whole of Morocco! We will retrace our way back to the refuge. Time for the ascent is around 4 hours; total walking time 8 hours.

Day 4: Toubkal refuge (3200m) – Imlil (1740m) – Marrakech
The last day, you will have breakfast, and walk back down via the same route to Imlil village, where you will have lunch at a guesthouse before transfer back to Marrakech. Today's walk will take around 4 to 5h, followed by a 1h30 drive to your accommodation in Marrakech.

What to pack?
Visitors are advised to prepare for mountain conditions. It is normally warm and exposed during the day, and cold in the evenings, and very cold on the summit!  You will feel the raw power of the mountains. Note: there are opportunities to rent equipment. Let us know in advance.
  • Good hiking shoes are absolutely essential. The trail is long and can be rough and uneven at times, good foot support will make the journey far more enjoyable.
  • Light comfortable clothes for the hiking. Light, long sleeves and long pants are ideal hiking attire as they will help to keep the sun off.
  • Warm layers, for the night and the early morning start on the second day. A jacket, long pants, gloves, and a warm hat are recommended, as the morning will be very cold.
  • Sun protection. The sun at high elevations is strong. It is wise to bring sunscreen, a sun hat, and polarized sunglasses, as much of the hike is very exposed.
  • A buff or a scarf. This will help protect your face from the wind as well as help you to keep warm the morning of the summit .
  • Lip balm & moisturizer. This is one that is easily forgotten, but when coming to areas drier than our skin is used to, lip balm and moisturizer are an essential part of staying comfortable.
  • Trekking poles (optional). Some of the terrain is fairly uneven, trekking poles can be helpful for navigating these parts, and for the steep downhill, to keep the weight off your knees.
  • Ice axe and crampons (November-April). These will be necessary for navigating winter conditions on the mountain.
  • Camera (optional). The views from the top are incredible.
  • Your favourite snacks (optional). The hike, although not exceptionally long is at a very high altitude, which can make it very tiring. Although your guide will have some nuts and dates for sustenance, a little bit of your favourite chocolate or candy can come in handy. Experience has shown that having chocolate or your favourite snack, on hand can be a big morale booster when the going gets tough. Know your body and your energy levels.
  • A sleeping bag (optional). Although the refuge offers blankets, some prefer to have their own sleeping bag as well
  • Portable Power Bank (optional). If you spend a lot of time on your favourite device and want to charge it overnight, a portable power bank may be necessary, as the refuge near the summit may not have consistent power.
  • Toilet paper
  • Headtorch (recommended)
